In order to proceed with the registration of a new .gr .eu .com .net .org .biz .info domain name we strongly advise you to consult previously the "whois" as to ascertain that the name you wish to register is available.
According to the current legislation that determines the way of operation and management of .gr domains, the submission of the application to the Registry by the registrant, simultaneously implies the registrant being charged by NTPC for the registering fees concerning this specific domain name. The registering applications for .gr names are immediately forwarded to the Registry, despite the payment way.
The final decision about the cession or not of the .gr domain that you may select, is received after a session by the National Telecommunications & Post Commission.
Domain names that can not be ceded are .gr domains belonging in any of the following categories:
- Names of Municipalities, Communities and Toponymies which are ceded only to the local authorities.
- Names that do not have distinguishable character.
- Countries' codes according to ΙSO
- .gr domains, for which there is already registered a .gr domain under the third level .gr domain .gov .gr.
Whether the .gr domain name you will select is available or not, if this name belongs to one of the categories mentioned earlier, it will be rejected by the National Telecommunications & Post Commission.
The activation of the .gr domain name takes place (after the payment is done), with the restart of the Research and Technology Foundation's root name servers, that happens every 3 to 6 hours.
IP.GR has an online management system with a direct connection to the Registry (FTR). The registration procedure, provided that all the networks involved are properly operating, follows the next steps:
The person registered submits the registration application for the domain name of his choice and this application is immediately forwarded to the Registry. The person registered receives by the registrar a confirmation mail, containing the application's protocol number.
Afterwards, since the payment through credit card has been selected and the transactions successfully completed, the domain is fully activated in the domain management panel.
