How to force SSL for your Joomla website?

If you want to add another layer of security to your Joomla website then you can enable SSL support on your hosting server. This will force the links to your website to use the free SSL certificate that is installed on the server.

This can be done by simply adding a few lines of code to your main installation .htaccess file in your public_html directory. If you do not have an .htaccess file in the public_html folder, you can simply create a new file using the cPanel > File Manager or an FTP client.

Just edit the .htaccess file and add the following lines of code at the top of the file:

RewriteEngine on
RewriteCond %{SERVER_PORT} !^443$
RewriteRule .* https://%{HTTP_HOST}%{REQUEST_URI} [QSA,R=301,L]
< IfModule !mod_ssl.c >
Redirect permanent / https://example.com
< /IfModule >

where in place of example.com you should put the real domain name of your website. This will force the links to your website to pass through the SSL certificate.
