How can I change DNS records through my cPanel?
If you want to access the zone editor of your domain with DNS records through the cPanel, you can follow the steps below:
- Log into your cPanel account.
- From the Domains section, navigate to Zone Editor.
- On the right hand of your domain, click Manage.
- On this screen, you can find all the DNS records of your domain. Click Edit next to the record in order to update the information in the text boxes or Delete to remove the record.
- To add a new record, click the + Add Record button and fill the record’s information in the relevant fields that will appear on the first line.
-
Name
The name of your DNS record, which has to end with your domain. The period character (.) that has to be added in the end in order to function properly, is automatically added from cPanel.
-
TTL
Time To Live. This information updates all DNS servers globally about the expiration date that is put on a DNS record. The TTL tells the server how long it should keep said record in its cache and once this period is over, the DNS servers will ask again for the current state of the record. The time is set in seconds and the default setting is 14400 seconds, that is 4 hours. If you set a very short TTL, it may cause a small delay in the loading time of your website, as the DNS network will constantly be trying to get an update for the new state of the DNS records of your site, a process that requires some milliseconds.
-
Type
Select the record type from the list. The available options are: A, AAA, CAA, CNAME, MX, SRV and TXT.
-
Record
The server's address in which the DNS record refers to. In this field you can enter the IP address of the server, the domain name or a subdomain. The TXT records stores text notes on the DNS server and you do not need to add the quotes before and after the record.
