Most of the pre-set up templates don't need any changes, other than adding thr IP address. The template's IP must be replaced by the ip provided by the respective provider.
Example
Below there is a zone file template (default template) and a brief explanation of the entries:
$TTL 14400 @ IN SOA ns1.server40.net. root.webtool.gr. ( 2010083001 7200 3600 1209600 86400 ) webtool.gr. 14400 IN NS ns1.server40.net. webtool.gr. 14400 IN NS ns2.server40.net. mail 14400 IN A 62.103.149.58 webtool.gr. 14400 IN A 62.103.149.58 www 14400 IN A 62.103.149.58 webtool.gr. 14400 IN MX 10 mail webtool.gr. IN TXT "v=spf1 a mx ip4:62.103.149.58 +all"
$TTL 14400
TTL (Time -To – Live) is the life time of the records that have no TTL record of their own. If you create a MX,A record and give no value to TTL, then the record's TTL will be 14400.
@ IN SOA ns1.server40.net. root.webtool.gr.
The SOA (Start Of Authority) determines general parameters for the domain. Only one SOA is allowed to exist in a zone file.
2010083001
The serial number of the zone file is consisted of 2 parts. The first, is the date which in (YYYYMMDD)form, and the second is the number of changes that have been made in the zone file the same day.
BE CAREFUL: Each time you complete a change in the zone file, you must update also the first part of the serial number in the current date. If the serial number is 2010083003, that means that the last change that took place was in 30/08/2010, and the third change that was made in this file that day. If the current date is 29/06/2011 and you make a change to the zone file, then you alter the serial number to 2011062901.
