How does my website visitor understand that it is protected with SSL?

Visitors of your the website can see that it is secured with SSL certificate in several ways. If you use a basic SSL certificate to secure your website, the URL displayed in the address bar of the visitor's browser will begin with HTTPS prefix and a locked padlock will appear at the top or bottom of the browser window (depending on the program browser).

If you go a step further and choose more extensive validation for your website the address bar will be highlighted in green. This type of certification is known as Extended Validation (EV), provides the highest level of security that can be gained with an SSL certificate and assures visitors that your site is safe.

A further insurance of your website is the seal (Security Seal or Trust Mark). This is the most visible symbol and is displayed on your website to show visitors and customers that you are bound to protect their data and that you have invested in protecting the security of your website. It just gives your site's visitors the image of a website that meets all requirements for being a trusted website for exchanging data and for any other transaction.
