How to issue and install an SSL certificate that I purchased?

In order to issue an SSL certificate, you must first create -unless you already have- an email account like webmaster@my_domain_name and make sure you have access to it.

Then, you need to generate a Certificate Signing Request (CSR) from the hosting server of your website.

If your website is being hosted by IP.GR, you can follow the steps below:

  1. Log into your cPanel account.

  2. From SECURITY section, click on the SSL/TLS icon.

  3. Select SSL/TLS

  4. Select Generate, view, or delete SSL certificate signing requests.

  5. Select CSR

  6. Fill in the required fields marked with an asterisk (*) and click Generate.

  7. Generate CSR

  8. Copy the entire content both of the generated CSR (Encoded Certificate Signing Request) and the Private Key (Encoded Key) including the first and last lines that start and end with "-----" and paste them in a text file.
  9. Note: Make sure that this file will be kept in a safe place.

If you own the CSR and the Private Key:

  1. Log into your IP.GR account.

  2. Go to: My account > My SSL certs.

  3. My SSL certs

  4. At this section you can find your SSL in a Waiting for configuration state. Click Edit.

  5. Configure SSL

  6. In the first step you need to insert the CSR including the first and last lines that start and end with "-----" and if this SSL concerns a new purchase and not a renewal, fill the requested fields with latin characters (not greek). In the next step, select the email webmaster@my_domain_name and then click Save.

  7. Now the status of the SSL has been changed to Being processed. In this stage you are awaiting the Certificate Authority to issue and send you the certificate (CRT) to the email address you selected on the previous display.
  8. Note: Before the final email with the certification (CRT), you will receive at webmaster@my_domain_name an email with a link which you need to visit and press Approve Request, in order to verify that you control the domain. The link is valid for 30 days.

    Pending SSL

  9. As soon as the CRT is issued, the SSL status changes to Issued.
Once you receive the email with the CRT, copy all its lines including the first and last line that start and end with "-----".

  10. Log into your cPanel account, go to SSL/TLS and select Manage SSL sites.

  11. Manage SSL sites

  12. If the domain you want to install your SSL on is not already selected, select it from the Domain drop-down list.
In the first 2 following fields, paste the Certificate (CRT) that you received via email and the Private Key that was generated along with the CSR. Then click Install Certificate to install the SSL certificate.
