How do I upgrade my Joomla site?
It's very important for the Security of your site to always keep your Joomla application Updated in the latest version. It is also very easy to upgrade the major release you use.
To make it a little easier to understand, each Joomla version is available to the public with the following badges: [major].[minor].[maintenance]. For example, version 3.1.5 is major 3, minor 1 and maintenance 5. Upgrading between versions 3.x.x is a simple process. However, the change from a major version to another, such as from 2.x to 3.x, called migration, is more complicated, which nevertheless we strongly recommended.
- Joomla versions
- Joomla upgrade within the same major version
- Migration of a major version to another
The Joomla application currently has two major versions officially supported, Joomla 2.5 and Joomla 3.x. The developers are working on both versions and provide security and bug fixes for both. If you use any of these, you should look for a minor version (like Joomla 2.5.x or 3.x Joomla). The upgrade to a version within the same major version is very simple through Joomla administrator with one click.
There are also older versions such as Joomla 1.0 and Joomla 1.5, which are unsupported now. All users of these versions will be good to upgrade to Joomla 2.5 as soon as possible. Also, when the version 3.x reach 3.5, will become the recommended version for all Joomla sites and users of Joomla 2.5 will need to upgrade their sites in the new version. However, the transition from a major Joomla version to another is not a process of a click and may have more work, especially in more complex sites.
