How to use JetBackup in order to better manage your backups

Over the years the constant evolution of the internet and technology, bring more and more important information that has to be stored on websites and especially on business websites. A website may hold important data of great value to the owner, the loss of which can lead to major financial impact for their business.

The above fact makes imperative the existence of regular backups for all the websites.

By taking into account the modern needs of websites and e-shops and in order to provide an integrated customer care experience, we have added the "JetBackup" application to all hosting plan of the Business and Semi-Dedicated lines.

With this application the recovery of a backup couldn't get easier, while the user can either full restore or partial restore the account, by selecting specific items of the hosting plan (files, databases, email, etc).

In this article you will find instructions on how to use both versions of JetBackup.

JetBackup

Accessing JetBackup

  1. Log into your cPanel account.
  2. Locate the JetBackup section.

Full or partial backup restore

The main advantage of the JetBackup application is the ability to easily restore backups.

To restore a backup follow this procedure:
  1. From the cPanel of your account, select the "Full Account Backups" icon (to restore the entire account) or the icon corresponding to the individual service you want to restore (e.g. "File Backups" for your account's files, "Email Backups" for your emails, etc.)
  2. On the page that appears you will find a table with all available backups sorted by the dates they were taken.
  3. Locate the appropriate backup.
  4. Click on the word "Restore" to restore the backup or on the word "Generate Download" to download the backup.
    • If you clicked on "Restore" click on the box with the word "Are you sure you want to restore this account?" and then press the "Add to Restore Queue" button.
    • If you clicked on "Generate Download" press the "Add to Download Queue" button.
  5. After a few minutes, your account will revert back to the state in which it was on the date you selected.

Individual file recovery

The process of restoring individual files is slightly different from what was mentioned above, so we have included further information below.

To restore individual files or folders from a date without affecting your entire account you can follow the following guide:

  1. From your cPanel, locate the JetBackup section and click on the "File Backups" icon.
  2. In the table that appears, locate the most suitable backup and then click on "File Manager".
  3. This will show a list of all the files and folders that were in your account the date you selected.

  4. Select the files or folders you want to restore.
  5. Click on the "Restore Selected" button to restore or on "Download Selected" to download.
    • If you clicked on "Restore Selected" click on the box with the word "Are you sure you want to restore this account?" and then press the "Add to Restore Queue" button.
    • If you clicked on "Generate Download" click on the "Add to Download Queue" button.
  6. After a while, the file or folder you selected will be restored to your account.

How can I create an Instant Snapshot;

To create an Instant Snapshot follow the procedure below:

  1. Go to the JetBackup panel
  2. Click on the "Snapshots" icon.
  3. Click on the "Create New Snapshot" button located on the top left corner of the page.

The procedure above will create a direct copy of your account in its current state. You can do any actions or tests you wish on your account and then reset your account at any time to the state it was in when you created the Instant Snapshot.

How can I restore my account from an Instant Snapshot?

To reset your account from an Instant Snapshot follow these steps:
  1. Go to the JetBackup panel.
  2. Click on the "Instant Snapshots" icon.
  3. On the page that appears you will see all the available Snapshots of your account.
  4. Click on the word "Restore" to restore or on "Generate Download" to download.
    • If you clicked on "Restore Selected" click on the box with the word "Are you sure you want to restore this account?" and then press the "Add to Restore Queue" button.
    • If you clicked on "Generate Download" click on the "Add to Download Queue" button.

JetBackup Queue and Settings.

Queue: The queue is a page listing all the processes that have been executed, are being executed and will be executed by the JetBackup application. You can view this page by clicking on the "Queue" icon on the JetBackup panel.

Settings: JetBackup enables you to set up an email so that you are alerted every time a JetBackup process is completed. This can be done through the JetBackup application settings. To access the settings, click on the "Settings" icon on the application panel. Then enter the email to which you want to be notified and click on the "Save Settings" button.

  1. Log into your cPanel account.

  2. From FILES section, click the JetBackup 5 icon.

From the tab "Dashboard" of JetBackup, you can fully or partially restore your account, download a backup and even backup your cPanel account at any time (backup on demand).

Full account restore / Download a full account backup


  1. From the Restore & Download section, click Full Backups.

  2. Select Full Backups


  3. Select from the displayed list, the date where the Full Account backup was taken (it includes the website files, emails, settings etc).

  4. Select Date


    • To restore your cPanel account:

      1. Click Restore at the bottom of the screen.

      2. Restore Backup


      3. Click Restore Selected Items.

      5. You will be taken to the (Queue) tab, where you can see the progress of the restore and get to know if it is done (status Completed).

      6. View Queue


    • To download a Full Account backup to your device:

      1. Click the Download button at the bottom of the display.

      2. Download Backup


      3. Click Download Selected Items.

      5. You will be taken to the (Queue) tab, where you can see the progress of the download and get to know if it is done (status Completed).

      6. View Queue


      7. Navigate from the side menu to the "Downloads" tab and at the right hand of the listed backup click Download, so you can download to your device the compressed file (download_XXX_XXX.tar.gz) that contains the full account backup.

      8. Download Backup File


Partial account restore / Download backup with individual sections


  1. From the Restore & Download section, click the item you want to restore (Home Directory, Email Accounts, Databases etc). In our example, we will select the Home Directory tab that contains the folders and the files that are accessible through the File Manager of your cPanel.

  2. Select Partial Backup


  3. Select from the list the date when the backup of the Home Directory was taken and then, you can optionally select specific folders or files, by clicking Change Files Selection. Otherwise, the entire Root Folder will be restored.

  4. Select Date


  5. Select the folders or files you want to restore and click Select Files.

  6. Select Files


    • To restore the selected files:

      1. Click the Restore button at the bottom of the display.

      2. Restore Backup


      3. Click Restore Selected Items.

      5. You will be taken to the (Queue) tab, where you can see the progress of the restore and get to know if it is done (status Completed).

    • To download the selected files to your device:

      1. Click the Download button at the bottom of the display.

      2. Download Backup

      7. Navigate from the side menu to the "Downloads" tab and at the right hand of the listed backup click Download, so you can download to your device the compressed file (download_XXX_XXX.tar.gz) that contains the backup with the selected files.

Create Backup On Demand


Through JetBackup you can create anytime a full cPanel backup, so you can have restore points of your website before any update or change you may need to do.

    1. From View & Manage section, click Create Backup On Demand.

    3. Press OK to start the backup process.

    4. Press OK


    5. The backup on demand process, is added to the Queue list which can be found either to the side menu, or to the View & Manage section of the Dashboard.

    7. In the Queue section, you can see the progress of the download and get to know if it is done (status Completed).

  • Restore / download of a backup on demand:

    1. The Backup on Demand that is created, is available through the Restore & Download section where you can go to either from the Dashboard, or from the side menu of JetBackup.

    3. You can restore the backup (fully - partially) or even download it, by following the steps as described above in the relative paragraph for Full or Partial restore/download.

Manage Account, View Downloads and Queue


In the View & Manage section of Dashboard, you will also find the below icons:

  • Manage Account
    Through Manage Account, you can specify the email address that JetBackup notifications for the account will be sent to.
  • View Downloads
    By clicking the View Downloads icon, you will be taken to the "Downloads" tab of the side menu, where you can find the last 2 backups you've asked to download, so you can save them to your device. που έχετε ζητήσει να κατέβουν (download), προκειμένου να τα αποθηκεύσετε τοπικά στη συσκευή σας. The compressed files are created with the following format: "download_XXX_XXX.tar.gz".
  • Queue
    In the Queue section, you will be able to view a list with all the processes that are executed manually by the users , as well as view their status (Completed, Failed, Cancelled, Pending, Processing).

Alerts


In the Alerts section, you can view all the alerts generated from JetBackup processes. These alerts are divided into 3 categories:

  • Information Alerts
    Include alerts about started and completed backup jobs, download and restore processes.
  • Warning Alerts
    Warnings about Partially Completed backup jobs, download and restore processes.
  • Critical Alerts
    You will be notified when backup, restore or download processes have failed.
